Cast on and off

Holden got his cast off on Tuesday.

Good news---there was new bone growth around the leg

Bad news---it didn't heal as much as the doctor "wanted," so she told me to keep Holden from running, jumping, playing on the playground, jumping on the tramp, or any kind of strenuous activity for 4 weeks. No idea how we will keep Holden from running, but we will try! She did give us a suggestion to take him to an indoor swimming pool. That way he can get a lot of energy out, but not put a lot of pressure on his leg.

Here is a video of Holden running with his cast. This video just makes me smile, I love that giggle of his. He was able to adapt so well to having his cast on.

And him walking the day he got off his cast. He has been limping without his cast on, but the doctor said that's normal and he might limp for a week or so.

In the video, he starts freaking out because he hates all the stuff on the ground from the tree. No idea, why he is afraid/hates it!

Neighborhood Carnival

Eric and Nina's stake had a huge carnival. There was food, huge bubble making, dunk tank, fresh scones, balloon animal making, snow cones, cupcake walk, and bounce house (which Holden was sad he couldn't do).

Holden loved popping the gigantic bubbles with his balloon sword and playing a rolling ball game. I think we spent 90% of our time popping bubbles!

And yes, sorry for all the videos. I am now obsessed with taking videos and now everyone gets to watch them and hear my wonderful voice :)

Bike Fun

I was going to get Holden a bike for his birthday, but then he fractured his tibia so that was out of the question.

After he got his cast off, I thought it would be nice to get him a present. So we searched a few yard sales, toys r us, and found his bike at Target.

Here are some more (probably boring and annoying) videos for everyone to see of Holden riding his bike. He loves to point out that Daddy has a bike and so does "me!" I think this summer will be full of bike rides and fun!

Holden can't pedal yet, I think his right leg is a little weak from having his cast on. But hopefully he will regain that muscle in no time

Perfect Spring Day

Maybe one of our best days yet this spring....

Woke up at 8am and made a raspberry smoothie and then headed off to Home Depot. Now that Holden has a bike, it has to go everywhere he goes. So I had to load the bike next to him in the backseat.

Our plan was to make these, but we got little planters instead of egg shells

We stopped at Whole Foods for the wheat grass seeds and then Shopko for a few other items. It was such a beautiful day, we made a detour to feed the ducks at Sugarhouse park.

When we got home, we headed right outside to start potting. Holden helped me with all the steps, and we can't wait for fresh wheatgrass to use in our smoothies.

After potting our wheatgrass, we played various things. Cleaned up the water table and put fresh water and sand in it, doodled with chalk, Holden rode his bike, blew bubbles, and I started whacking down all the overgrown plants in the back yard. Holden also loved collecting all the tiny pine cones.

Came inside for lunch and went right back out for some more playing before nap time.

After nap we are headed down to Orem, for dinner with Brittany! We ate delicious salads and ice cream followed by a bike/walk around her neighborhood.

No (major) tantrums or no time outs, but plenty of playing and laughing....these days really are perfection

Video

(I have NO idea an easy way to post videos to the blog, so for now I guess I will upload them through YouTube.)

Busy times

Whew it has been BUSY! I promise this week I will get pictures up of Holden's birthday party (it was a month ago) and Kurt's graduation and party...PROMISE!

April 30

Seriously snow on April 30??

My 2 year old

Seriously where has the time gone? I can still remember being in the hospital with Holden like it was yesterday, and now he is 2!

Holden......

-LOVES dump trucks, garbage trucks, fork-lifts, motorcycles, buses, cho-cho's,
-HATES loud noises--the blender, vacuum, fire alarm...are great examples
-really likes to watch Kurt play Halo, he is allowed to watch 1 game!
-is obsessed with blowing bubbles and asks daily
-still loves to watch Curious George
-loves to pretend shoot people
-----he really sounds like a boy huh?
-if we are with family or friends and mom is around, he ONLY wants me, he will rarely go to other people minus Josh and Bapa
-we have a routine every night before bed---we read a few books while drinking milk, he brushes his teeth, "does" his hair (splashes water on his hair), points to his pictures every night that are hanging on his bedroom wall (a picture of Brent and Holden, a picture of Holden at a baseball game, and a sonogram picture of his foot), he HAS to turn off the light, and we sing a few songs.
-tells me if he has "poop"
-fell out of his crib because he climbed up the rails with his cast on and tried to reach for a toy
-if he gets hurt, he will always ask for ice, but never actually use it
-is really starting to love cho cho trains, and whenever we pass by the trax he says "me cho-cho?" so we really need to take him for a ride
-is now putting together 2 words like "please mom" or the other day he even said "please mom up." he may not be talking a lot, but thats ok :)
-has adjusted really well to his cast, he can run around and it doesn't even phase him
-is really showing his aggression, he likes to hit when he gets upset or just at any time. we are doing 2 minute time outs and he sits there the WHOLE time.
